Think I have talked hubby into returning to Maui next year - albeit for a shorter stay and smaller budget. (We just did a longer stay this past summer.)
My tentative plan for Day 1 is to land around 2 or 3 pm, see the I%26#39;ao Needle and then eat before we go check into the 4 Seasons - so we%26#39;re looking for a late lunch/early dinner thing. I%26#39;d rather not eat in Kihei the 1st day since we%26#39;ll be close to that during our stay.
I%26#39;ve barely spent time in more of the upcountry parts, so any suggestions near the airport or on the way to the needle?

I agree with Da Kitchen in Kahului. Good food and lots of it. Save your upcountry travels for another day. If you are near Kula, eat at the Kula Lodge. I think their food is pretty good, and the view is wonderful.
Of course, you can get Da Kitchen in Kihei. If you want something that you can%26#39;t in Kihei there are so many great place in Wailuku, like the Saigon Cafe, Mina Street Bistro, Cafe Marc Aurel, Sam Sato%26#39;s, Unisan, Tiffany%26#39;s, Tokyo Tei. Or Mañana Garage and Ichiban in Kahului.
When are you coming next year? You might want to ask this question again before your trip. Things change around here quickly.
