my wife and i just recently just got back from hawaii and i wanted to get a poll of those who went to the big island, which helicopter company you went with and why? we%26#39;ve heard so many good things about blue hawaiian and was going to go with them until a ';slight'; mishap with concierge at our resort made us cancel with them and go with sunshine. sunshine wasn%26#39;t bad at all - very professional, but i just wanted to see what everybody else%26#39;s opinion on the other helicopter tours.
a little part of me regrets cancelling blue hawaiian. hate to place blame, but it was entirely the concierge%26#39;s fault. at least we still enjoyed the beautiful kohala coast line and the waterfalls (just not with blue hawaiian)!

We used Blue Hawaiian and they did a good job. 2-way radios, good background music, the pilot was amusing, and the heli was spacious. No complaints - I%26#39;d use them again.

We went on Blue Hawaiian out of Hilo and had the same good experience as AZ sundevil. We chose them after seeing some positive comments on them and visiting their website. They just appeared to be a well equipped, professional operation. We enjoyed it and would not hesitate to go with them again.

I did not go to the big island, we stayed in Maui and took the Alex Tours mini circle island tour. Stay away from ALEX AIR. The pilot never did a 2-way communication check prior to take off and he never heard any of our questions. Very disappointing to say the least. They were not very responsive to our compalaint either. All they offered us was a free dvd. Next time I%26#39;ll research prior to booking. I have since have heard good things about Sunshine. ALOHA.
I took the Safari helicopter tour over the volcano on 8/26 and it was awesome! The pilot did note that the lava flow we saw was brand new above the ground - it mostly flows below... the flight immediately prior to ours did not see this. I did notice that our pilot made sure to make several passes over the skylights and lava flow we saw as well as the lava going into the water so each side had a opportunity for a great view and unobstructed pictures. I noticed several of the other helicopters only fly over once. Safari also films the ride for you (extra charge) which was pretty cool.
We did the Hawai%26#39;i experience with Paradise and were very happy. Excellent pilot, better than some I flew with in the military. All are about the same, some of the big differences are the availability of a DVD (which really is an upsell) and the type of bird used. Different companies have different suggestions to the pilots about how much to interact with the passengers. Some stop for fuel in Hilo doing the circle island, others do not based upon fuel capacity of the helo.
Good luck and happy travels!
