Hi,
My wife and I will be in Kona for a day, Wednesday October 29th. We are on the Pride of America cruise.
A read about a beach called '; Makalawena Beach. It is located in the Kekaha Kai State Park ( formerly Kona Coast State Park.)
We would like to hike to this remote beach. I read that the Kekaha State Park is closed on Wednesdays. Does anyone know about this? If the park is closed, can we still hike down to Makalawena beach from highway 19?
I would appreciate any and all information I can get about this beach, and how to get there.
Thanks!
Anyone know about Makalawena beach in kona?
the entire park is closed to all for maint and cleaning gates will be shut......Sorry this includes Kua bay as well No entry at all.
A-bay will be open by the marriott
Anyone know about Makalawena beach in kona?
Thanks for the info!
I hate to be discouraging, but I would not pick ';remote'; hikes as a cruise day trip. You just never know what will happen. You don%26#39;t have a condo to get back to, but a boat that will sail away if you miss it.
I would stick to places you can drive in and out of and be confident of your time frame. And nothing that could involve blowing a tire or dinging your car undercarriage ... keep it uncomplicated.
You could try
Kukio Beach by the Four Seasons. Parking passes are limited though.
I agree with the others, don%26#39;t try this. And anyways it is closed. Kukio beach is nice, uncrowded, but does have very limited parking. I guess one option would be to go the the Four Seasons for lunch (so you can park there) and then walk the 15 minutes along the paved walkway along the ocean down to Kukio.
There is also a public access to Kukio Bay by going into the Four Seasons, you don%26#39;t need to eat there (although it%26#39;s a great lunch place, although the Beach Tree and beach bar are now closed, they%26#39;ve moved lunch ops to Pahu%26#39;ia and the Resident%26#39;s Beach House). The public access on the FS side of Kukio does not have limited parking, so passes are always available. It%26#39;s a very short public access path, has decent bathrooms and showers, and is a lovely, long beach with plenty of swimming, snorkeling, and walking/hiking all the way from the north side of Kukio Bay down to Kikaua Point, and even continuing on to Kua Bay. Usually fairly uncrowded.
