one day in Maui

Cruise ship? Why one day? More info please? Are you flying in?

Are you docked in Hilo or Lahaina? Makes a big difference...also more info on www.cruisecritic.com

It really does matter whether you are coming by cruise ship and where you dock. Lahaina or Kahului. Will you have a car?

Love it when I get my islands mixed up! LOL at ';Hilo'; sheesh!

Thanks for the responses...we will be in Kahului. We are actually going to Honolulu for a week but will be taking the ferry to Maui for a day.

OK. that really makes a difference. Kahului Harbor is in an industrial area of Kahului. There is a strip mall across the street and Queen Kaahumanu Center(Maui%26#39;s largest mall), a few blocks down. To see anything worth seeing, you will need a car.

I wouldn%26#39;t waste my few hours on Maui going to the tropical plantation.

Iao Valley would be nice. You could head past Paia to Hookipa Beach where the windsurfers are. Not a really nice beach for swimming. If you are looking for beach time, the nicest and closest would be in Kihei down through Wailea and Makena. You could go to Maalaea to the Maui Ocean Center. Wonderful aquarium with nice shops and restaraunts.

You could also go for a beautiful drive along the Honoapiilani Hwy. to Lahaina for sightseeing of an old whaling town full of shops, museums, galleries and restaraunts.

You also would have plenty of time if you wanted to, to head ';upcountry';. You could drive to the winery, lavendar farm, goat farm or actually go to the top of Haleakala.

Since you will be arriving in Kahului ..... rent a car and drive to the summit of Haleakala...on the way down stop and enjoy all that the slopes of Upcountry offers! (That%26#39;s what I%26#39;d do if I only had one day...perish the thought....on Maui)!

ps....My husband is from Sask. and we were just there a couple of weeks ago! Hope it is a bit cooler there now!

I would rent a car and drive up Haleakala ... then to the west shore and visit the Maui Ocean Center. Then up to Lahaina, shop and goof around, have dinner and then head back to the ferry.

Thanks for the reponses....is there a car rental place close by to where we are docking?

Good %26#39;ole%26#39; Sask weather..was rainy and cool but plus 27 today and sunny!
