Question about VRBO

I%26#39;m wondering if you all use rental contracts when renting condos off VRBO. The person%26#39;s place I%26#39;m looking to stay at didn%26#39;t provide a contract and stated that the e-mail was our agreement. I%26#39;ve always used contracts before where there was an ';official'; agreement, with terms and such.

The ad has been up on VRBO since 2002, so I think it%26#39;s ok, but there%26#39;s always the ';what-if'; lingering in my head, since I have to send off full payment up front. I searched and searched on this forum and I only found one post from 2005 where someone mentioned this unit (it was fine by the way). Just wanted to get some feedback. Thanks

We don%26#39;t have a formal contract either. We do employ a rental management agency and provide the guest a copy of their reservation confirmation, but the rental terms are so simple we never drew up a formal contract.

We rented 2 condos last year with no contract. We are also renting 2 condos March 09 without a contract. They just sent us a letter stating some of the rules, check in and check out, and the breakdown of costs etc.

As I stated in another thread, sometimes the contracts actually stress me out a bit. I%26#39;m also not to fond of security deposits ( although I know why they have to exist ).

There is a type of insurance on VRBO which is free. They will cover up to $5000 that you have paid any owner. You have to register your trip on line before you pay the owner though. I%26#39;m going to do this.

Thanks for the replies, I didn%26#39;t know about the VRBO insurance. I went ahead and signed up for it, even though today I put a check in the mail for the unit. Technically they haven%26#39;t been paid yet, so we%26#39;ll see what happens.

Went with vrbo for the first time this year and rented a place at Maui Kamaole. No contract. We did almost everything via email. The owners sent us a statement via snail mail. Everything was paid in full 30 days prior to our trip.
