My wife and I will be spending a week on Maui in late June / early July, and we%26#39;re planning to spend a night in the Hana area. We%26#39;re seeking hotel recommendations for that area.
We like upscale accommodations, but will gladly stay in a nice bed-and-breakfast or boutique hotel. Please share any recommendations. Thanks.

Seeking Hotel Recommendation for Hana Area of Maui
The Hotel Hana Maui is beautiful but pricey. About 475/night last I checked.
We stay at Tradewinds Tropicals-the Hana Cabana in%26#39;05 and the cottage this Fall. They offer two more upscale properties also.
Google Hana accomodations for more info.
Hana Kai Maui Resort Condominiums offer 1 night rentals. Incredibble Oceanfront location, well kept grounds, clean, full kitchen, friendly staff. Moderate prices. hanakaimaui.com
Hotel Hana Maui is the ONLY hotel in east Maui area .. all else are vacation rentals of varying sizes, price ranges and quality. For ease, nice amenities, good location, view of Hana Bay, etc. the Hana Kai condos are a good bet. Reasonably priced with nice balconies. The upper building is closer to Highway and if you leave windows open or sit on balcony facing mountain side, you may hear road noise. Great views on balcony side of Hana Bay, check out the upper or lower units on the end closest to Hana Town, #s 101, 201. Advantage to upper buildings ... ease of loading and unloading stuff.
Lower building is closer to shoreline; note this is the rocky beach part of Hana Bay, no sand. However there are lots of steps and round about routes to get from parking lot to front door. All units in lower bldg have great views out to ocean.
Did you make any decisions? You won%26#39;t be disappointed at the Hotel Hana Maui. I dream and crave going back, two years later.
It looks like Hotel Hana Maui is beautiful. But many people on Trip Advisor have stayed in Sea Cottages/they are upgraded upon arrival. Has anyone stayed in Garden View Jr. Suite? The ';upgrade'; is an additional $150. Am thinking of staying in April. Is Sea Cottage that much better? Should I book now, or hope for upgrade upon arrival?
It appears restaurant at Hotel Hana Maui is very good, albeit pricey? Any foodie recommendations for the immediate Hana area?
Thanks!!

Hana is a very remote tiny town. The only place a ';foody'; would go is to the resteraunt at the hotel. There is only a couple of other places to eat.
We%26#39;ve stayed in the original Bay Cottages, but are booked into the Sea Ranch ocean front cottage for next year. I wouldn%26#39;t count on a complimentary upgrade, but the hotel does offer upgrade deals during the low season. I think I read those comments about upgrades and they referred to some deal about booking with an American Express card or something. Call the hotel and ask them.
As far as eating goes, we like to eat in the hotel bar as an alternative to the dining room.
We stayed in room #201 at the Hana Kai Maui Resort. It was a clean, HUGE, comfortable room with a great view of Hana Bay and a black sand beach. They were able to accomodate us for one night only, and actually let us put our luggage in our room early so it wasn%26#39;t in our car while we were hiking. The price was a lot more reasonable than the Hotel Hana Maui. Check it out www.hanakaimaui.com
I can only speak for room #201, but the pictures on the website are extremely accurate!
I just returned from a stay at Hotel Hana Maui. We stayed in an ocean view sea ranch cottage and loved it. The bay cottage junior suites are every bit as beautiful inside and even a bit more spacious than some of the sea ranch cottages. The junior suites are anywhere from 680-850 square feet. The only drawback to the bay cottage junior suite in my opinion is that at night you are too far away from the ocean to hear the crashing surf, which was the highlight of our stay - it lulled us to sleep every night - it was simply paradise. Otherwise you have an equally lovely room in the junior suite, and it is also within much easier walking distance of the lobby, shops, spa and restaurant. This hotel is really stunning. It is a place I will never forget. Make sure you take the time to do the outdoor hot and cold plunge pools at the spa - which are free to all guests.
