Is Aqua Hotels really Gay friendly?

My BF and I are planning a trip to Waikiki and have booked the Aqua Palms in January and notice that this Aqua hotel chain advertises themselves in gay publications.

However some friends at of mine recently stayed the Aloha Surf and said that they did not feel very comfortable at the hotel. They said desk clerk was very curt and rude, which they felt may be because they were gay.

Should I change my reservation?

If you read some of the current threads about Aqua Palms, they seem to be rude to everybody, whatever you sexual orientation might be.

Is Aqua Hotels really Gay friendly?

I%26#39;m not gay, so can%26#39;t really answer your question. I think most gays go to the Diamond Head end of Waikiki.

Aqua Palms is on the Ala Moana end of Waikiki.

Here are some links that you might find some info:

The Aqua chain has gotten lots of not-so-good comments lately. The bad service could well have nothing to do with sexual orientation. I would choose a different hotel myself, but not necessarily over the gay-friendly issue. Just because I think there are better hotels available in the same price point.

I would book at the Waikiki Grand Hotel. It is a great location and had Hula%26#39;s Bar %26amp; Lei Stand on the second floor.

The other place I would consider is the Wyland Waikiki on Kuhio not too far from the gay clubs on Kuhio %26amp; Seaside.

Sorry, meant to include Hula%26#39;s website

Forgive my skepticism for a single-post history on such an oft trolled subject...

I don%26#39;t think it is fair to frame the entire Aqua brand as anti-gay because of a single encounter at just one of their properties. And, as has become so obvious, they are obviously neo-modern savvy and are seizing an opportunity to attract a specific demographic; which is particularly important during the current slump.

Easily the most gay-oriented hotel in Waikiki is the Cabana Waikiki. See their website at:

You might also consider the Waikiki Grand, where Hawaii%26#39;s premier gay club is located (Hula%26#39;s). It has an excellent location at the diamond head end of Waikiki next to the park, with some great views. See:

Lots of gay %26amp; lesbian folks also stay at the Queen Kapiolani, a property I regularly highly recommend, which is next door (and superior) to the Grand. See:

Thanks for the advice! I%26#39;ll check the other suggestions out. Looking forward to visiting Hawaii!
