Day 1 - We flew into Kona at 3:15, picked up our rental car at Budget and proceeded to Hale Kona Kai. This is a very nice complex. Our condo over looks the Ocean and is very well equipped with Central Air. After dropping off our bags we went to Sack and Save to get the necessities for the night and next morning. We also splurged on dinner and went to Wendys.
Day 2. While my better half(Deb) was waking up I went to Oceans Sports Bar to watch the Lions get beat again. Deb joined me at half time. The breakfast was very good. After the game we went to Walmart and Safeway to shop for the week. We had lunch next door at Don the Beach Combers Mai Tai Bar. We had the Mai Tai sampler, these 3 mini roast beef sandwiches with dipping sauces and cheesecake. The food and drinks were very good. After lunch went back to HKK sat on the Lanai and had a Mai Tai. For dinner we went to some a Sushi Place for a $2 Mai Tai, then to Bubba Gumps for Dinner. At Bubba we had a bunch of shrimp, beer and some fruity drink the waitress suggested. Once again the food was very good. After dinner went back to the room, sat on the Lanai and had a Mai Tai.
Day 3 - 12 to come. I sure hope we slow down, Deb says we may be over doing it.
Trip Report Day 1 and 2 of 12 days
Which unit are you in at HKK, and are you oceanfront or on the lagoon? We have often thought about staying at HKK, but haven%26#39;t yet.
Trip Report Day 1 and 2 of 12 days
We are ocean front. 4th floor standard balcony. When we leave I will post a detailed review of the unit in the review section. So far we are very pleased.
Hi dndFrank,
We, too, were extremely happy with Hale Kona Kai.
Glad to hear that you鈥檙e having a good time in Kailua-Kona. I鈥檓 looking forward to the next installment of your Trip Report. Have fun.
Melelina:
This past August we stayed in Unit 412 at Hale Kona Kai, and loved it. The location of the complex is especially convenient, about a three minute walk into Kailua-Kona. This is a plus, as it鈥檚 quite difficult to find free parking in town. We also were pleased that the complex is located on a one-lane-side-street off Alii Drive (the main drag), thus eliminating traffic noise, and providing easy access into the building.
Wanting a wrap-around lanai, we debated between the 12s and 13s. At the time we reserved (7 months prior to arrival), the 13s were already booked, so we chose 412. Wow, what a stunning view this unit affords! In addition to the ocean, the 12s overlook the pool area, whereas the 13s see the lagoon, with the grounds of the Royal Kona Hotel in the distance. The complex is so close to the water, that from our fourth-floor lanai, we were able to observe the resident eels in their tide pools (directly below the sea wall adjacent to the pool), as well as a number of honu.
Hope this helps. Please ask if you have questions. Enjoy planning.
I know the football games start ungodly early over there. What time did you get to Ocean%26#39;s?
Sounds like you%26#39;re having a great trip. Awesome!
Thansk!
