I have an opportunity to go to Maui in December and might take a friend. We are both guys in our late 30%26#39;s. Is there enough cool things for us to do, or should we look at Oauho (sp) or the Big Island instead. We just want to stay at a decent hotel, nice pool, beach and have some night life some times.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can Two Guys Have A Good Time On Maui?
Maui offers plenty of cool things to do and you can log pool and beach time on some of the best in the world. But the nightlife is limited and Maui does tend to roll up the sidewalks on the early side. If you want things to do, pool, beach AND nightlife, better to opt for Oahu.

There is a lot to do on Maui. You won%26#39;t have any problem finding things to do.
Lots of info including sites with free brochures for all islands:

the easy answer is sure there is, but because it%26#39;s expensive to come here, you ought to do some more research and go to the island you%26#39;ll like best.
Maui nightlife is nothing like Waikiki nightlife. No urban edge to it.
Maybe describe better what kind of bar or club makes you happy, and what kind of beach. Even, what is a nice pool or a decent hotel? There are so many kinds of pools and hotels.
Do you like city by the beach, with highrises? Or laid back?
I don%26#39;t think Big Island is for you unless you are more into nature. There%26#39;s almost zero nightlife, and it costs a lot to stay on a white sand beach, and pools are not important here except for families with kids.
wow, thank you all so much for your responses. To answer some questions: Were not really looking for dance club night life, more like, small bars with some atmosphere and music or a hotel that has a bar with music and good opportunities to mingle and visit with other people. We don%26#39;t want the city by the sea, so I think Waikaki is out. As far as Hotel, we just want something that has a great beach, good food, bar or two, a pool where people hang out and have fun. It doesn%26#39;t have to be the Grand Hyatt, but Id like something better than the Holiday Inn lowerend.
Also, what type of weather do they have in December?
Thanks again! Mack

Sounds like Kaanapali would be perfect for you...stay somewhere close to Whaler%26#39;s Village for some nightlife and is also close to Lahaina for more fun bars. the beach is terrific there and also close to other get body-boarding, snorkeling spots.
I think you would have a blast! Weather is a bit more changable that time of year but still usually gorgeous.
You%26#39;ll have plenty to do IF you like the water ... swimming, snorkeling, catamarans ... other options. great places to hike. Haleakala you will love (it will blow your mind!) Maui%26#39;s wonderful.
I think that the Lahaina/Ka%26#39;anapali are would be best. Good places to hanging out. Does your ';opportunity'; include lodging? If so, where?
But -- 1) if you are talking about the week before and after Christmas - you%26#39;ll have crowds of families. You may have trouble securing a room. If you are talking about the first couple weeks in December - you may find some good bargains... even at the Hyatt! :)
2) Maui is a real honeymoon magnet. Lots of couples. Just so you know ...
Weather -- average daily temps in 80%26#39;s or low 70%26#39;s.
Some rain in some parts of the island ... nothing like St. Louis. Average rainfall for the whole month of December is less than 5 inches. The wetter sides of the islands see more ... of course.
Don%26#39;t toss away the idea of Waikiki. Oahu is an amazing island ... best beaches. Honolulu is only one part - and there is a ton of things to do. Also - in December on Oahu are the classic killer waves. You won%26#39;t believe it.
Another question might be are you both looking to meet some girls?? While there are some singles, Maui is most couples/honeymooners, families, and old people.
';Maui is most couples/honeymooners, families, and old people.';
Huh? We have choke single people here, both residents and visitors. There are plenty residents here who are single, and like it that way, and find new friends each week from the pool of visitors.
Oahu is where you want to be. There is MUCH more nightlife there, more variety and places that are open after 9PM. Go to Maui for your business and then scoot over to Oahu to enjoy yoursleves.
