We%26#39;re (2 adults, 2 teens) planning a trip to Kauai in June (already have air purchased). I got a call last night from Marriott time shares offering us: 2 bedroom, 2 bath villa at Marriott%26#39;s Waiohai Beach Club for 6 days/5 nights for $898 ($180 each night taxes included).
From looking at the Marriott%26#39;s Waiohai Beach Club%26#39;s website it looks nice, this special rate we were offered is less than half the going rate, so the savings in large. I do understand that we%26#39;ll lose a good 2 hours of our time listening to their schpeel, but we%26#39;ve done that before and can easily say ';no.';
Sound too good to be true? Are there other comprible condo%26#39;s/hotels that I can get that good of/or close to the same rate at that you%26#39;d suggest?
The Marriott%26#39;s Waiohai Beach Club seems to be in a nice central location on the island, but we have never been to Kauai before, so please confirm.
We%26#39;ll be there 3 additional nights, so if we booked this we could move to another area of the island for those nights.
All comments/suggestions greatly appreciated.
Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club, 5 nights $898
That%26#39;s a great deal. You could easily pay 2-3 times that at a comparable resort. It%26#39;s on a great beach and the units are very nice. This offer is very similar to the Starwood offers in Hawaii and the Marriott offers at other Marriotts in Hawaii. Usually they include a compact car for those 5-6 days. You might want to check into that. But if not, it%26#39;s still a fantastic price.
Also, check the fine print about the timeshare presentation. They don%26#39;t always require that you attend a presentation. It will state so inthe terms and conditions. In many cases they don%26#39;t require it but HOPE you be so danged excited about the place that you will take them up on the offer to talk to one of their sales reps. And you WILL receive a nice formal invitation to attend, once you get there. Years ago, I did the Marriott offer at Kaanapali, while it was going timeshare. I did not attend and refused their offer to attend. This might be the same.
As far as being central, the Marriott Waiohai is in Poipu Beach. This is not the MOST central part of the island but central enough between the west shore (Waimea Canyon, etc.) and the north shore. About 45 minutes to the west shore and 60 minutes to the north shore.
Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club, 5 nights $898
Do 3 nights on the North side and you%26#39;ll be set. no driving back and forth and get to see both sides adequately.
$180 for a 2 BR in a new, upscale resort? I wouldn%26#39;t spend too much time looking in that horse%26#39;s mouth. In Kapaa, the Waipouli will be more like $250-300 unless you get a parking lot view or prices collapse. Up north you can find places at that price, but not with anything like the same amenities/beach access.
If you really want to comparison shop, hit VRBO for comparisons at more aggressive pricing than you%26#39;ll find elsewhere.
CottonGin,
We stayed at this Marriott this June and had a wonderful time, it is a great loction. We only have a small room, our view was beautiful. I wrote a review all about the place with pictures. Type in the Marriott Kauai Resort %26amp; Beach Club under search and you will find the review. I am sure the villa%26#39;s are nicer than our room. We did check out the room a Waiohai Beach Club last year, nice and beautiful. But it is smaller place and has a smaller beach, condo falmy place. They keep pushing the time sharing at this place. Hope this helps. Both places are nice.
Aloha Ann
CottonGin, we stayed at this Marriott a couple of years ago, with the same plan (except that I think ours was about $650 for 5 nights, including a rental car).
Our other two nights we stayed at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club (in Lihue).
We loved our stay! The 2-bedroom units are really nice, with full kitchens, granite countertops, washer/dryer, 2 bathrooms. Everything was very clean.
We also got $100 to use at the resort or at several local restaurants. There was a Starbucks in the lobby, so our 3 teenagers had no problem using up the $100.
For our 7 nights in Kauai, spent a total of less than $2,000 for 5 people. We used FF miles to get to Honolulu and then paid about $750 for our flights to/from Kauai from Honolulu. So even with that $750 included, and including our food, our total was under $2,000.
We hiked at the trail at Ke%26#39;e Beach, snorkeled at Ke%26#39;e, Tunnels, Lydgate and Poipu Beaches, went to Waimea Canyon, hiked the cliff by the Grand Hyatt, and overall had a great time. It was our second trip to Kauai. We%26#39;ve been to the Hawaiian islands 4 times and Kauai and the Big Island are currently our favorite out of the big four.
Our kids were old enough that they could sit around the pool while we went to the timeshare presentation. We told them no (I think it was over $45,000 per unit!!!!) and then enjoyed the rest of our day. We felt it was definitely worth it and we%26#39;d gladly do it again.
Thanks for the great feedback. I did book the Marriott Waiohai Beach Club and am very excited about it.
We just got back from Kauai, on a similar deal from Marriott. Our stay was $750, but it was only in an oceanfront room at the Kalapaki Marriott. It came with a Hertz rental and $50 dining cert that could be used at a lot of places (we used it at the Beach House).
I can give you more info if you%26#39;re interested. But basically, the Waiohai is beautiful, and if you love the south shore you%26#39;ll be set. The presentation was low-key/no pressure, but they%26#39;ll keep you there your 90 minutes unless they%26#39;re busy. The timeshare is extremely expensive. I%26#39;m guessing from your post that you%26#39;re somewhat budget-conscious, so even if you think of buying, NEVER buy from the developer.
Believe it or not, we have friends who have done this time share offer at the Marriott for the last 3 years. They go to the presentation, say NO, but are offered it again each year. Maybe Marriott thinks they will break down one of these years.
At any rate, the love the facility.
If you were able to book that price for June, good for you. That is a terrific deal. Good friends of mine did it last year and were dumb enough to buy. Never buy from the developer unless you like to throw money away. Also good advice to stay on the NS a few days. Trouble is many people won%26#39;t rent for 2 or 3 nights especially during the summer unless it backs up to another reservation. By staying a few nights on the NS you cut down on the driving time to the preferred beaches. Just ask anyone there right now how old it gets to constantly be driving 1 hour to the beach. While on the SS visit the canyon, go to the luau at Smith%26#39;s etc and then on the NS take the Napali Catamaran tour out of Hanalei, zipline, kayak, and enjoy the sunsets over Bali Hai.
Happy planning.
It%26#39;s good to hear all the positive things about this facility. We too got one of their ';special deals'; - 5 nights and a rental car for $848 (oh - and the $50 certificate too). The good thing is we don%26#39;t have to go to the time-share presentation. Don%26#39;t know why, but not looking a gift horse in the mouth!
We leave Thurs. - are looking forward to it, especially since it%26#39;s our first time in the Islands!
OK, dumb question but I%26#39;ll ask anyway. Is there anyway to get a good rate at the Waiohai W/O going to the presentation?
I would have to drug my husband and drag him in there. He refuses to go to theses things (since we did the one at the Lawai Beach Resort) AND he has to work while we%26#39;re there. NO way he would waste 2 hours even it the rate was fantastic. Anwyay, I lvoe the location. We used to stay there when it was the Waiohai hotel (before Iniki).
