(HOH) Help our Honeymoon!!!

Hi, we have decided on Honeymooning in Hawaii (via San Fran %26amp; Vegas) but don%26#39;t have a clue where to go! I think we have decided on Maui or Kauai - but would love a romantic smaller hotel with villas rather than a 1000 acre village where I%26#39;d feel like The Prisoner!! Is there anything romantic but not huge in Hawaii!!!

We love walking/eating/sightseeing but aren%26#39;t extreme sports fans (being in 40%26#39;s!).

Hope you TA peeps can help.....

Thanks in advance....

A new hotel is opening in Poipu that I think fits your bill. It is called Koa Kea and is on one of the best beaches. http://www.koakea.com Check it out!

Aloha, you did not mention what time of year , the month , that you would be visiting. That could be important.

We do not stay in hotels, but tend more to condos where we are not lodging in large buildings, with huge amounts of guests, long hall ways, and the crowds of people that are stuffed into those areas.

In fact in 12 years of visits at poipu kai, since those condos are spread out on 87 peaceful acres , for us it was more like living like a resident than at a time share/visitor rental hotel.

Seven non crowded semi private pools with your own key for entry to our particular sections pool.

In that period of time, all those two week visits, we saw less people, than one 15 minute walk thru the more compact multistoried resorts.

Now, that is what we like, not evryone has the same idea. And that is great.

Also, up on the north shore, there are some free standing three story ';villas'; or houses with great mountain views called the Hanalei Bay Villas.

They look like seperate town homes, and are quite nice.

Super peaceful, extremely reasonable, nicely appointed, views from the bedrooms, living room, and kitchen.

Across the road from the trail down to Hideaways beach, also our unit was only a few steps from the paved path leading down to the beach at the Princeville hotel.

Would suggest this place in the summer months.

The hanalei bay resort is also very wonderful, with super deluxe condos providing phenominal views of hanalei bay and bali hai.

Now, this is from our perspective. We like a more peaceful and spread out style of living. Not compressed humanity. Honestly, we still walk thru the landscaped grounds of poipu kai every once in a while, and might greet a whole six or so other people.

But, that is what we prefer. Others are totally 100% happy with the larger buidings and more resort living, and just love it. And could not be more pleased.

In fact, we live in a condo resort, that is pretty peaceful, and not crowded. But, we also like walking across the road to the Marriot to enjoy Kalapaki Beach, and the restaurants.

We have a gated key card entry hilltop pool, so Banyon Harbor is perfect for where we live . Yet, it is also fun to visit the marriot resort for ocean swimming, getting some sun, and a different style than our residence.

So, it is all good no matter what you chose, as it will fit into your life style and what you are looking for.

As to your asking about what to do and see. In order for you to tailor your visits to what you like, you might pick up the Ultimate Kauai Guide Book, or another guide, and read up on all of the wonderful sites, walks and restaurants. Plenty of detail and directions. Also, photos and info on most every resort lodging on the island.

After having an idea of what you might like to do, and where you are staying, the board can help you with your specific questions.

Congratualtions

Denny

Hi Denny, and thatnks for your great post....we are coming over to the islands in May 2009 (arrive around 14th May). Sounds like you are similar to us, I want to feel like we are somewhere special, but not one of 100 honeymooners!! Budget not a problem so anywhere super nice and romantic on the beach is great!!

This being your honeymoon I would think you would like pampering. One thing about the Koa Kea it is NOT a huge mega resort - it actually only has 121 rooms. That is VERY small on Kauai! It just looks so luxurious. Just read this and remember this is YOUR honeymoon - pamper each other, enjoy it, you never know when you will be able to do it again!

The ever-present trade winds and exotic fragrance of the local flowers are just a small part of what makes Kauai such a popular destination for romance. Combined with the dramatic mountains and turquoise ocean, any romantic getaway or honeymoon becomes even more meaningful.

To experience the Koa Kea Hotel %26amp; Resort at its most romantic, select one of our spacious, ocean front one-bedroom suites situated just steps from the water. Ideal for a romantic getaway or a beautiful honeymoon. Enjoy your private lanai with breathtaking views of the ocean, perfect for sipping champagne or enjoying a private ocean side dinner.

The Koa Kea Spa features five treatment rooms with one room designed specifically for couples. Be sure to book the couples room as far in advance as possible! In addition to romantic walks on the beach, other activities on Kauai include surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, zip-lining, horseback riding, kayaking and hiking. You could spend two weeks on our island and still have more adventures to enjoy.

Congratulations on the upcoming special event and you are choosing at least 2 of my favorite places in the whole world (I could live without Las Vegas).

Maui is a wonderful island with terrific beaches, great restaurants and activities. It is also a bit more crowded than Kauai. If you want to eat your way through Hawaii then Maui is better than Kauai. If you like to hike, kayak, want to see boundless beauty (think Jurrassic Park) then Kauai is it. Kauai is more laid back. Not as fussy. The Koa Kea does sound like a good fit if you want a small hotel. It is located in Poipu, an upscale community on the South side of the island. It is next to 2 large condo complexes. It has not opened yet (late fall I am now hearing) so no reviews. It does sound romantic. The nicest hotel in Poipu is The Hyatt. Yes, it is large but trust me you would not feel like a prisoner. Prisoner of love yes, with stripes on no. The grounds are so Hawaiian, the restaurants on site excellent and close to many activities. In May I prefer the North Shore. Beautiful majestic mountains, good ocean conditions for snorkeling etc. It is even more laid back than the South side. The largest hotel is going to be the St Regis. This is the old Princeville Hotel that will reopen in April Very expensive but the views are unreal. For the same view but much cheaper look at Hanalei Bay Resort. These are privately owned condos (villas) within 22 acres overlooking Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai, the famous mountain in the movie South Pacific. Only rent through a private owner.

http://www.summitpacificinc.com/ the lounge and restaurant will reopen by 09.

Another very nice condo complex is Puu Poa. Large condos with terrific views. The Westin Hotel is up in Princeville too, but I would avoid going there for a honeymoon as it can be filled with kids. Great for families but might get a bit much for honeymoon. Also you might consider a cottage.

May is a wonderful time in both SF and Kauai.

Happy planning.

Might also want to look at Hooilo House and Hotel Hana Maui on Maui. Perfect honeymoon places IMO.
