When to book flight?

I realize no one has a crystal ball, but I need to book flights for July 09 and was wondering when the best prices might be posted. Right now the cost is off the charts. Thoughts? Ideas?

hawaiian airlines will tell you now what the fares are on what days -- you can plan your trip that way

Thoughts -

Virtually all airlines have cut the number of seats therefore the number of cheap seats is limited, once sold the remaining seats will cost more.

The price of oil is going down however, the airlines did not react to it going up fast enough and have billions of loses to recoup.

You might score a cheap seat at the last minute but if you don%26#39;t you are looking at a very expensive seat or first class as all that will be available...that is a gamble You need to decide to take or not.

Some airlines (NWA for example) offer a price difference guarentee, if it drops $100 or more below what you paid they refund the difference. Also with NWA vacations you don%26#39;t pay for the airfare until just before you travel therefore you could cancel if you find a cheaper price.

Final thought, pretty the days of really cheap flights to Hawaii are as gone as peanuts and pillows in coach...if you want to go bite the bullet and pay the higher fares.

Thank you for all the help. I will keep checking the fares and hopefully get a good deal! See you on the beach in July!

cheapest fares on hawaiian for july 09 is 333 per person before taxes

Went through this same debate for my April trip. Watched the fares increase every couple of days it seemed. Booked it on Friday and then yesterday the same flights had gone up by $200 each. So what do you believe? Airfare will continue to rise based on business losses. Airlines will come out with a special summer sale. I chose the first one for April as I didn%26#39;t think a spring break special was likely.

lougee, where did you find 333 per person??? Lowest I found on H Air is 980.

Hi Norge

Fancy running into you here!

The $333 flights are out of Portland or Seattle. Might be worth it to catch a SW airlines up there

June-to september, December to April are the most popular times and demand they have the highest fares and planes are 100% full. Summer sales...ha not to Hawaii. Fall sales yes

April to June October-november are the lowest

This year $800-1200 was common for Kona to LA for the summer. Starting now till Nov 19, the fare is $630 mid week not weekends.... then it should go back up

While oil has dropped, the huge losses the airlines have sustained are not going to be made up very fast.

By the way, Hawaiian announced they are having Boeing modify 6 of their 767ER%26#39;s.. That will take 6 planes out of their fleet... and reduce flights

consider that.... ( Pacific Business/ West Hawaii today source) This is in line with the airlines announced 25% cut in flights and seats to Hawaii.

I think they will just do one at a time not all 6 at once. They are also getting more 717%26#39;s for the interisland market..good move.

Maybe you know Dan, I read that Hawaiian is spending 10 million to add winglets to the 767%26#39;s...that is over a million a plane...don%26#39;t you think that is kind of pricey for an 11 foot winglet? I realize they will save a bunch of fuel but still...
