Question about ABC stores

My husband will be doing the Honolulu Century bike ride on Sept. 28. He drinks Powerade (not Gatorade or any other sports drink) on his rides. Do the ABC stores carry Powerade or will we need to find a way to Wal-Mart to get some?

Thanks!

Jenny

If they don%26#39;t have it you can try the Food Pantry on Kuhio.

Question about ABC stores

I would go to the new Safeway on Kapahulu. They have Powerade and a lot more great stuff at good prices.

Hi Scott,

Where is the new safeway?

Is it close to Kalakuaa ave?

Thanks

The new safeway is quite a way up Kapahulu, which intersects Kalakaua at the Diamond Head (east) end of Waikiki...probably close to a 2 mile walk depending on where you%26#39;re staying in Waikiki. It%26#39;s a very nice new store...I%26#39;ve been wanting to try the new ';Burgers on the Edge'; joint in the Safeway complex...anybody tried it?

Back to your Powerade quest, ABC stores don%26#39;t stock it. Some of the ABC stores do have fountain drinks of which Powerade is one of the selections - the ';mountain blast'; blue stuff - $1.40 for 44 OZ%26#39;s.

Like someone mentioned earlier, the Food Pantry at Kuhio and Walina in Waikiki has a good selection of the 32 oz bottles of Powerade in about 5 flavors. The Prince Kuhio Pharmacy just a few doors west on Kuhio also has a good selection.

It may seem silly, but the brand of fuel seems to be very important to long distance riders. When I used to ride centuries, I was convinced I would crash and burn if I didn%26#39;t have some syrupy stuff called HydraFuel in my bottles.

Good luck with your ride! Are you going to ship your bike or borrow/rent one? Do you have a link to the ride info or a map of the course?

I am doing the Honolulu century ride through the Leukemia Society%26#39;s Team in Training. They are shipping my bike. In fact, I just dropped it off last night to be shipped. The website for the ride is here: http://www.hbl.org/?q=node/164, the map is here: hbl.org/images/website/century-2008-map.gif

Thank you so much for the information.

The new Safeway is at 900 Kapahulu, Honolulu 96816. You can Google Map it, it is pretty far down, closer to the freeway (but also close to Leonard%26#39;s!).
