Searching for a secluded get-a-away on the beach in Kauai. Or would you recommend another island, like Molokai? Preferably a cottage style with walk onto beach, listen to the surf at night, wake up to a bird%26#39;s paradise.

secluded rental on beach in kauai
You can certainly find what you are searching for on Kauai. Molokai has some issues right now and the locals are not very receptive to visitors.
For seclusion check out Anini Beach and Serenity Rental Company. Of course a lot this depends on the time of year you are visiting. During the winter the North Shore surf is rough. On the West side look at Waimea cottages.
Also look at this website.

Many on this forum have stayed at nice secluded cottages, but be aware that many may be illegal rentals and the county is cracking down. After Sept. they must have permits.I believe the deadline is Sept but they have until March to comply. Some will get these permits and some will not. I would only stay in a place permitted.

Anna,
Theplace that comes to mind when you say ';secluded rental on a beach'; is Gillin%26#39;s Beach House. I almost rented it in2001 but it was actuall TOO secluded with small children. But it might be perfect for you.

Also, we went to Molokai in July 2007 and loved it. We had planned on returning in 2008 but they closed The Lodge and Beach Village. There are not a lot of other choices for lodging and many of the rental homes are illegal. I know that ';halemalu'; runs a nice B %26amp; B but it is not on the beach. The island is extremely quiet with a limited amount of things to do. Check out their forum for more information.

p.s. What jebett said in her post is very true...
'; Molokai has some issues right now and the locals are not very receptive to visitors.'; We tried to look past that on our trip in 2007 but we felt unwelcomed most of the time (except at The Lodge which is now closed).
We came across a secluded beach house on an amazingly beautiful beach while hiking out the Makewehi Cliff trail east of Shipwreck Beach. After we returned home I did some research and found a web site. We%26#39;ve never stayed there but it is the most secluded beach house I%26#39;ve seen on the island. I%26#39;m sure it would match your criteria perfectly.

I have been inside this house. It is cute, nothing fancy, very plain. I would LOVE to stay in it but it is a BIT too secluded for me - but it is a LOVELY area! And YOU WILL hear the surf from this house, trust me!
We also checked Gilln%26#39;s Beach House out in late 2000 and it%26#39;s simple and clean. Great location. But hubby is on the island for business and he needs cell and internet access. So now we stay on Baby%26#39;s Beach. Not as secluded but we can still hear the ocean! It%26#39;s sometimes too loud!

Other than the Gillan cottage that others have mentioned, I%26#39;m not sure you%26#39;ll find ';a secluded get-a-way'; on a beach anywhere in Kauai. There are a lot of really nice cottages and houses, many near a beach, but not usually right on them. As jebett mentioned, as of March 2009, those rentals will need to have a non-conforming use permit in order to be rented legally. So right now we%26#39;re kind of holding off booking a place for next May/June until we see what%26#39;s going to happen with those permits.
When are you planning on going? That will be a big factor in determining what part of the island you might want to be on. I can send you a list of some secluded cottages on the north shore if you want, as long as you%26#39;re not going the same dates we are and you ';steal'; one of them away from us :)
I am not sure that Hale Makai cottages come under that restriction, they are right on the beach, pretty much to themselves, newly renovated and very nicely done. If you are going bet. May and Sept I would highly rec. them. Good Luck with your planning!
